What drives you?
What drives me is having the opportunity to change people’s lives. Knowing that I am building a product that is bigger than me focuses my work and motivates me each day. Being fit and healthy has had a huge impact on my life and I want to empower others to make positive changes in their lives.
My thirst for knowledge drives me and continually takes me out of my comfort zone. Understanding that you can’t possibly know it all forces me to constantly learn and adapt. I love that there is so much I have yet to learn.
What’s next in training?
I believe it will be centred on movement – a hybrid of cross-fit, strongman, yoga and pilates. People not only want to look great, but are now driven to move and feel better. Aesthetics comes with performance and being able to move well, so I believe training will mirror that.
I also believe that training plans will become more personalized. Our bodies are all so different. We recover at various speeds and respond differently to training and stimulus. With improvements to technology I’m sure we will be able to eventually track all aspects of our training. From recovery, to sleep, to stress levels and hormones – we will be able to feed into an automatic tailored training program for each day.
What makes you happy?
I really am a simple guy! Having been raised in the country, I’m happiest in times of peace and quiet. Fly-fishing is a big passion of mine and not many things make me happier. Standing in a river with no care in the world, surrounded by beautiful countryside = bliss!
I’m constantly striving to be the best version of myself – both physically and mentally. I love setting myself challenges and goals. I love researching and planning my training to achieve them – no matter how lofty! My most recent challenge was a boxing match, and next year I am looking to complete my first ever triathlon.
How do you create balance in your life?
Balance is incredibly difficult when launching a business, but I have experienced the downfalls of burning out, first hand. As a result I have created a number of routines and rules to live by.
My mornings are incredibly important to me, as they set me up for the day. I like to wake early, as with running my own business it’s often the only time I have to myself. I get to the gym for a workout at 6am, followed by meditating. Before I start the day I write down one thing I am grateful for, my big win from yesterday and the most important task for the day. This lifts my mood and gives me focus for the day. Focusing on one task also takes pressure off trying to achieve everything – whilst making me so much more productive.
Enjoying close personal relationships also help create balance, as they allow me to achieve perspective and take interest in someone else’s life.
What’s one piece of kit you could not live without?
A skipping rope. I have learned to love skipping since getting into Boxing. Nothing beats putting on some good music and logging out from the world.
What are your goals for the future?
Through, Nutrifix, I am driven to build a product that takes away the stress of healthy eating. I want to improve the health of people all over the world by helping them achieve the best version of them selves. Hopefully through sharing my story, I can inspire others to make positive changes and enjoy a healthy lifestyle.
Finally, having balance in my life is incredibly important to me, so I always want to be in control of my time. I try to maintain balance by enjoying time with friends and family and taking time off on the weekends to relax.
Who inspires you and why?
In the fitness industry, Steve Cook and Ross Edgley are incredible role models.
Steve Cook has built an incredible brand and following and inspired hundreds of thousands of people. He seems incredibly genuine, humble and passionate about what he does. He’s also hysterical, as he doesn’t take himself too seriously – which I feel the fitness industry needs more of!
Ross Edgley – the man who swam 100km attached to a tree, walked a marathon dragging a car and ran 30 marathons in 30 days… in his living room! He takes how far the body can be pushed to another level – all driven by an insatiable curiosity and a drive to raise money for good causes. He is also incredibly knowledgeable and always does it with a smile.
In business – my Dad has taught me the power of hard work and persistence. From my early days growing up I learned a lot about work ethic and perseverance through watching my Dad start his own business.
