What drives you?
The singular goal that applies to all of the people I train regardless of their goals or stating point is the idea of self efficacy. I want each person to have the conifidence in their skills and abilities and to be able to coach themselves eventually.
What's next in training?
I’m always looking to make myself better as a coach and one of the best ways to do that is to understand different types of personalities and methods of communication. A coach can know every method of training, from Pilates to weightlifting, and if the coach can not help the trainee to understand how implement training, all will be for not. Specifically for my own training, mobility and bodyweight control are the biggest hurdles. Coming from a background of marathon running, those are two aspects with which I have difficulty becoming proficient.
What makes you happy?
I’m happiest when I see someone to take a significant step toward his or her goal and gain efficacy.
How do you create balance in your life?
Meditation provides me the most balance. Each person who practices meditation will have a unique method specific to their needs. For me, I often meditate in the middle of the day, when I have some of my most personal time, using it to cultivate presence, focus, and a clear mind.
What’s one piece of kit you could not live without?
Socks are incredibly important to me. As often as possible, I like to take off my shoes within my training and regular life. For me, it’s a literal and metaphorical way to ground myself so I can develop myself as holistically as possible.
What are your goals for the future?
I want to reach as many people as possible. Currently in my position of teaching within the largest company in New York City, I have a large influence. Through having a part in teaching all trainers in the company, I’m able to reach tens of thousands of New York residents who are members with Equinox. I also have goals in the next 12 to 24 months of beginning my own business in holistic health and wellness coaching.
Who inspires you and why?
The masters of fields like physics, philosophy, economics, and business are some of my greatest influences. They are like mentors from a distance because I research their methods and incorporate some of their experiences, positive and negative, into my path and process.
