Jonathan Chmelensky

Ballet Copenhagen

My Name is Jonathan Chmelensky. I was born in Paris raised by my mother with the help of my Grandparents .
Ballet has always been in my life : it has been a way for me to concentrate and focus my energy into improving myself.
I started my professional Ballet training at 12 and have been training on a daily basis ever since. My first teachers were my grandparents (both ex- professional dancers)
In complement to my daily ballet routine my grandfather was also my physical trainer/body conditioning for many years, teaching me how to train my body to keep me away from injuries.
As a ballet student I travelled around the world to compete and to perfect my skill, this journey took me to train in: Paris, NYC and in Havana
I was recruited to join the Royal Danish Ballet in Copenhagen age 19 and been with the company ever since.
I am now a soloist with the Royal Danish Ballet and am lucky enough to perform around the world as a guest artist.

What drives you?

Improving on a daily basis , the constant search of a new limit to what I can do.

What’s next in training?

Right now Kinetics Soma Training and Hot yoga are amazing complements to my daily routine …

What makes you happy?

Realising I achieved a goal I thought perhaps unreachable .
Inspiring others to surpass themselves…

How do you create balance in your life?

Sometimes after a hard day I like to take the time to walk home slowly : no music , no SoMe , no cellphone , just taking everything around me in …

What’s one piece of kit you could not live without?

I most definitely couldn't live without my roller

What are your goals for the future?

Keeping a fresh mindset , soul and love for what I do

Who inspires you and why?

My Grandmother is the sole reason for my lifestyle and passion : she was my first teacher and was a ballerina herself . She is in her late 70’s and still trains everyday to keep her body and mind sharp.
