I’m Zi En, the co-founder of HASIKO, a wellness company with a strong focus on mental wellbeing. My journey into mind body wellness started when I was looking for ways to manage my stress levels first as a banker and then as a tech entrepreneur. Meditation and exercise gave me the strength and mental clarity I needed to take back control of my life. As a certified Pilates instructor with a regular running, yoga and meditation practice, I believe that our thoughts, feelings and what we do with our physical body directly affect our mental state and overall wellbeing.

What drives you?

Making someone’s day just a little better. I love seeing people walk out of a HASIKO class feeling energized, lighter and calmer. It makes my day because when people feel better about themselves, they have more capacity to be kinder to people around them. It’s seems like a small thing but I believe it creates a butterfly effect and makes the world a better place to live in.

What's next in training?

I believe that taking care of the mind is just as important as taking care of the body. Right now, exercise for the body and meditation are very separate concepts. There needs to more integration between the two because the mind and body are fundamentally connected.

What makes you happy?

What drives me also makes me happy. I also feel really great throughout the day after an amazing meditation session.

How do you create balance in your life?

By listening to my body. The human body has an incredible capacity to collect information and send signals to maintain balance. Unfortunately, in our modern fast paced life, we ignore these signals and resort to quick fixes like caffeine or energy drinks to push through each day. This adversely affects our overall wellbeing and leads to illnesses and injuries.

What’s one piece of kit you could not live without?

A soft and breathable pair of yoga pants! I wear them all the time so I really appreciate a well-made pair of tights.

What are your goals for the future? 

Setting up more retreats to beautiful destinations around the world. Inspiring more people to take My goal is to empower people with the tools (for me, it would be the HASIKO Method) to take care of themselves mentally, emotionally and physically so that they can enjoy and be fully present in their lives.

Who inspires you and why?

People who push boundaries and have a vision to make the world a better place. If I had to pick one, I would pick Angela Merkel. A strong woman who is not afraid to take bold stands and make unpopular decisions (opening Germany’s doors during Europe’s refugee crisis in 2015) simply because it is the right thing to do.
