Bjørn Jakobsen

Yoga Oslo

Hi, my name is Bjørn and I am a yoga teacher and a product developer for HiYoga and SATS in Norway. I started exploring the practice of yoga 15 years ago. Little did I know at the time; how influential this practice would be in my life. Like many before me, the physical practice appealed to me, and for many years I was content with strengthening and stretching the body. I noticed a lot of resistance, in being still, finding patience and gradually I noticed that the effect it had on my body also affected my mind. Being flexible changed from doing the splits, to find new ways of looking at things. Being physically strong, changed to show vulnerability and ask for help and guidance.

What drives you?

I used to struggle because of my ego. I was always pushing and trying to be a good at everything. In the process I forgot to be good to myself, and it wasn`t until a started doing a daily practice of yoga, that I realized what that was. Now, I focus on finding balance in an ever-changing world, where I appreciate every opportunity I have to grow and improve.

What’s next in training?

I have almost had a year where I have done no teacher trainings. My focus has been to teach more and implement my knowledge into my teachings. I have constantly been doing trainings since I took my first 200 hour, and never really been focusing on finding my own voice. Next year I will do a new 300-hour Vinyasa style in Koh Samui with Bryce Yoga “I remain a junior teacher – but a senior learner” B.K.S Iyengar.

What makes you happy?

One of my first teachers said: “don`t be so serious but be sincere in your practice” I love to see people smile and laugh in class. That warms my heart.

How do you create balance in your life?

This is a hard one… I meditate and do yoga every day. In my practice I always remind myself of three things in the beginning and in the end of the practice: I pray my mind will be focused and at ease, I pray my speech will be clear and kind and that my heart will be filled with love and compassion.

What`s one piece of kit you could not live without?

My yoga mat…

What are your goals for the future?

I have been working with business and management since I finished studying. During this period in my life, I worked part-time as a yoga teacher for many years and continued to deepen my practice and doing more yoga education. Suddenly, I felt my practice and teaching become more important, and that it changed my perception of what I wanted in my life. My goals are to enjoy the fruits of life more and being grateful.

Who inspires you and why?

There is so many… I always say that my mom was my first teacher. She taught me to love, to be vulnerable, fair and to do my best. She is definitely one of my biggest sources of inspiration.
